TCDD continues its preventive maintenance services with “Iron Eye”. With the device called Demir Göz, R&D developed by TCDD Teknik, 9 thousand kilometers of measurements were made on conventional railway lines throughout Turkey and possible defects on the determined lines were eliminated without causing an accident.
TCDD continues its maintenance and repair activities. Demir Göz, whose R&D development is carried out by TCDD Technical engineers, ensures the safety of the rails in the field. In the second round of measurements, which started as of November 2022 and continues as of November 2022, with the ultrasonic robot Demir Göz, which can reach speeds of 40 km per hour, approximately 9 thousand kilometers of measurements will be completed on conventional lines, ensuring a safe and reliable operation. It is planned to complete the measurement and maintenance activities of the 12 thousand 800 kilometer railway line by the end of the year.
LATEST TECHNOLOGY INTERVENTION TO RAIL CRACKS
Equipped with state-of-the-art systems, Demir Göz has the ability to travel on the highway as well as the railway. The vehicle has two measurement systems, one is an ultrasound measurement system and the other is Eddy-current measurement system. Cracks in the rail are detected with the ultrasound measurement system.
Maintenance is determined according to the size of the crack in the rail. In the eddy-current measurement system, hairline cracks on the surface of the rail are detected. Maintenance is carried out on the rails depending on the size and depth of these detected cracks. Thus, the safety of railways is ensured by detecting and maintaining the breakage, deterioration and wear of the rails in advance.
